The week of 9/21-9/25

I will be attending the SBA conference sporadically this week and the ExoticsCon conference this weekend, but I do have some limited availability to see appointments 9/24/20 and provide virtual care 9/23/20.  I will periodically check my messages at https://aevhs.smart.vet.  For e-mails, I will reply to correspondence within 24 hours and anything Thursday evening early the following week.    I am sorry for the inconvenience, but my brain is off and learning about all of the new developments in avian medicine and surgery this weekend!

Update for the week of 7/13

Not much has changed lately.  We are still able to see our flighted patients on a drop-off contactless basis as well as with distance with the patient inside and our clients outside.  We are following all CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19 and strive to keep everyone as safe as possible.

We are also able to accommodate in-vehicle exams with clients outside the vehicle or present via our telemedicine platform video.

We are able to see all others outdoors (including poultry and waterfowl), as well as on a drop off basis, and if the weather is not cooperative we do have the ability to see non-flighted animals in a shelter or the vehicle.

Detailed husbandry consultations are still available via our telemedicine platform, as are visits for current clients.  The fastest way to reach me is here.

We are back to seeing appointments Monday-Thursday with after-hours availability as needed.  If you need to make an appointment please click here.  I will be unavailable from July 30th-August 3rd.

Hope you are all having a safe and wonderful summer!

Update for the week of June 8th 2020

As of June 8th, 2020, we are still no longer taking any IN-home housecall appointments due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the need to preserve PPE and protect our clients, staff and families.  We are still able to provide housecalls but continue to work outside.  For avians we are only offering contactless drop off appointments, unless they are poultry or waterfowl, as we will see them outside.  We do not offer grooming only appointments.

If you are not a current client, I cannot offer you a telemedicine appointment legally in MN so please do not request one.  I also cannot legally offer you advice for your pet without a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship.  That means I have to actually physically examine your pet in order to give any advice.

If you would like an appointment, we are able to offer some work arounds; please use the Contact Us form to request an appointment.

If you are a current client and need assistance you can reach me online through our contact us form to schedule an appointment, OR currently through Medici.  If you are not connected to me yet, use the activation code WBOOBTCWBO.

Due to the sheer volume of voicemails, text messages and e-mails I receive on a daily basis we will likely begin scheduling replies to our messages soon.  Unfortunately I will NOT be able to reply to text messages any longer in a timely manner.

The fastest way to reach me is currently is via Medici if you would like to have a medical conversation on a current pet, or by uploading files to the dropboxes I have provided for your pet.

I really hope that you and your family are doing well, and we hope to soon be back to a more normal flow of business.

Thank you for reading all this!  Take care!

Here’s our update for the week of 5/10/20

As you know, since 3/23/2020 I am not taking appointments inside of client’s homes. We can accommodate contactless patient drop-off appointments, arrange to pick up patients and see them in the office then return them home, can see patients indoors with clients communicating through video, and as the weather and species permit, see patients outdoors only.

For birds, we can continue to provide care on a drop off or pick up and return home basis.

We have a very strict plan in place for how we handle appointments to protect you, your pets and our staff. We continue to see that this outbreak of COVID-19 is unpredictable and now have a better understanding at how contagious this outbreak is.

It is important to note that we are not back to business as usual, are prioritizing urgent need appointments and may be required to cancel appointments on short notice per the Executive Order 50-21.

The Latest Veterinary Alert:
Executive Order 20-51 requires prioritization of provision of surgeries and procedures and providing a safe environment. We’ve been required to draft and implement a plan for care.

Specifically, we will be screening every client with a COVID-19 exposure disclosure form, have each client sign waivers that they understand the risk of exposure to COVID-19, will be monitoring our staff for any clinical signs of COVID-19, wearing PPE for appointments when we are working with staff, and have a full plan available for review on request.

In the context of veterinary medicine, we continue to see animals on a priority basis to help prevent threats to public health, to prevent threats to the health or safety of an animal’s owner (e.g., in the case of service animals), and of course mitigate threats to the health or safety of the animal we are providing care to.

Read Governor Walz’s Executive Orders online here: https://mn.gov/governor/assets/EO%2020-51%20Final%20%28002%29_tcm1055-431183.pdf

This order strongly encourages the use of telehealth. We can offer this service to all of our current clients and patients, and can offer this if we are able to establish primary care with an exam prior to the televisit.

Due to the uncertainty of this current outbreak and rapidly changing epidemic, please realize that EVEN a CONTACTLESS appointment, non-urgent, or any veterinary physical appointments may no longer be an option AT ANY TIME, prior to any updating of this auto-reply, while we continue to monitor this outbreak.

We are doing our best to provide care in novel ways and facilitate patient transfer and care. I will continue to accommodate telemedicine appointments through Medici for now, but will begin transitioning by June to a more comprehensive platform.   For all of my current clients, I appreciate how willing you have been to work with us, and I will do my best to be there for you! As always, I encourage you all to come up with an emergency plan for your pets if needed.

If you are a current client and e-mailed needing non-urgent assistance be assured I’ll get back to you as soon as I am able, from there we can schedule a televisit or an appointment. At this time, the fastest way currently to reach me is via Medici as I continue to field many messages. If you are a current client and would like to schedule a telemedicine appointment you can download the Medici app here:  https://med.ci/app-p Enter in WBOOBTCWBO as a code to reach me.  I’m offering a variety of levels of support with telemedicine, beginning at $45/15 minute consultation, less for text message return, slightly more for a 15-60 minute video consultation.

Longwinded, as always, but hopefully this answered a lot of your questions!

Dr. j.

P.S.
